I always struggle with what our Christmas card should say. I wonder if we should update people on our past year, but then I remember that most of them not only know what happened in the last year, but also what I had for breakfast each day. (Thanks, Instagram.) I feel obligated to have a photo (for obvious reasons), yet I know we haven’t changed much since the year before. I want it to be cute or fun or unique in some way. I want to somehow encapsulate the Christmas season in one sentence, and that just seems impossible.
So, this year, I was able to come up with one word that explained our lives, our year, and the reason we celebrate this Christmas season. That word is JOY. I love this word because it doesn’t mean that every moment of this year was giggles and rainbows. It doesn’t mean that there weren’t trials. It just means that we chose JOY in every moment. This holiday season I hope you are filled with JOY. I hope that you remember to enjoy your family and friends, to be thankful for all that you’ve been blessed with, and that you experience JOY beyond comprehension.
“…I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 (NASB)
Merry Christmas.
